To a lady that left us yesterday

Hecsa Costa was our Spanish teacher in 10th and 12th grade. She was very sick, and left this world yesterday. I wanted to make this post to remember her, and what she did for us. She was a kind and very smart woman who fueled my love for Latin American literature. I have lots of funny, great stories of moments that were shared with her thus I'll always remeber her with a smile. Rest In Peace.

I can relate. Last year, I also lost my Spanish teacher. I basically started and finished high school with her, because she taught me on 9th and 12th grades. When I was in 10th grade, she got cancer. Yet, she still went to work when she could, because she had long absences because of the chemo and its side effects. I remember once in 12th grade that she started crying in the classroom because she wasn't feeling well. It was heartbreaking.

When I got the news of her death, after I hung up the phone I started to cry because she was such a great person with a beautiful heart. But at the same time I realized that she wouldn't suffer anymore. I'm so glad that we dedicated our high school graduation to her and that she got to see it.

May your teacher rest in peace. She's now definitely going to feel better and happier.

Hécsa Costa was my humanities professor in college. I had been trying to find her for years – to no avail. I’m so sorry to see this. She was a beautiful human being. She also fueled my love of literature and encouraged me to write. I am a writer now and will always be thankful to her. I know she had a son, so I’m posting this here hoping that some day he will read it and know he has lots of reasons to feel proud of his mom.
